Given recent debate about foreign citizens' right to participate actively or passively in national elections should be made conditional on being able to speak and to understand Luxembourgish. Political debates are fought in Luxembourgish. Giving foreign citizens the right to vote without requiring them to be able to speak and understand Luxembourgish could result in a biased outcome. In addition, such a measure would foster the use of our mother tongue, considered vital among Luxembourgers.
